Journal Assignment: Misjudged Experience
Journal Assignment: Misjudged Experience
In this journal, you will describe a time when someone was misjudged in hiring or at work and think about what could make the situation fairer.
What to include in your reflection
- What happened (brief story).
- How you or the other person were judged at first.
- What barrier or bias was present (for example: accent, age, documents, experience).
- What helped or what could have helped make it more fair.
Aim for 5–8 sentences. Try to use at least two new words such as: bias, stereotype, expectation, assertive, perception, misjudge.ple: In some workplaces, people say you must speak “perfect” English, but in others they focus on clear communication and respect, even if you have an accent.
Gentle reminders
- Do not use real names or company names.
- Share only what feels safe and comfortable.
- You can write “someone I know” or describe a typical situation.
If you prefer not to share a personal story, you may write about what could help in this kind of situation in general.
This is not a grammar test. Focus on the ideas and your honest reflection. When you are ready, write your journal entry in the space below.
