Build Your Professional Bio – Four Parts + Draft Sheet
Build Your Professional Bio – Four Parts + Draft Sheet
Approximate time for this step: 10–15 minutes. This is preparation for your final bio submission and interview practice.
In your live session with Maria, you already wrote a third-person professional bio and organized your experience in chronological order.
In this step, you will:
- Review the four key parts of a strong professional bio.
- Use a short draft sheet to write one clear sentence for each part.
- Prepare to turn your bio into a first-person, interview-ready introduction (for example: “I am a…” instead of “She is a…”).
This is a planning step only. You will submit your polished bio for written feedback in the next activity.
Step 1 – The Four Parts of a Strong Professional Bio
Open each part below to see what it means and a simple sentence frame you can use in your first-person bio.
1. Background – Who you are
This is your short “who I am” sentence. It usually includes your role or field, years of experience, and main area of focus.
Example frame:
“I am a [role or field] with [X years] of experience in [main area or industry].”
2. Key Skills – What you do well
This sentence highlights the skills you use most often and best. Connect them to real work, not just a list of adjectives.
Example frame:
“I am known for [skill 1] and [skill 2], especially when I [short example of what you do].”
3. Achievement – Your impact
This part shows a real result or success from your work, study, or volunteering. You can use a small STAR example here.
Example frame:
“For example, I [action] and as a result [positive result, number, or change].”
4. Next Step – Where you are going
This part connects your past and present to your current goal. It shows what you are looking for now.
Example frame:
“Right now, I am looking for opportunities in [role / field] where I can use my skills in [top 1–2 skills] to [contribution or impact you want to make].”
Step 2 – Download and Use Your Draft Sheet
Now use a short worksheet to draft one clear sentence for each part of your bio. This is only a draft. You will polish and submit your final bio in the next activity.
- Click the button below to open the draft sheet.
- Choose “Make a copy” so you can edit your own version.
- Write 1 sentence for each of the four parts:
- Background – who you are
- Key Skills – what you do well
- Achievement – your impact
- Next Step – where you are going
Suggested time for this step: about 10–15 minutes. Aim for clear, simple sentences. You will improve your vocabulary and grammar in the next steps.
In the next activity, you will turn these sentences into a full 4-8 sentence bio and submit it for written instructor feedback.
