Final Assignment – Polish and Submit Your Professional Bio
Final Assignment – Polish and Submit Your Professional Bio
Suggested time: 10–15 minutes. Target length: 4–8 sentences (about 30–45 seconds when spoken).
This is your interview-ready, first-person bio (“I…”), based on the longer third-person bio you drafted with Maria.
In this final step, you will:
- Revise your bio after hearing yourself read it aloud.
- Improve accuracy in grammar, word choice, clarity, and tone.
- Submit a polished professional bio you can use in interviews, mentoring, and your portfolio.
This is a portfolio-grade artifact and your best current version. You can still update it later as you grow.
Step 1 – Revise your bio after listening
Open your written bio and listen again to your recording from the previous assignment. Use what you hear to make small but powerful improvements.
Focus on these high-impact areas:
- Point of view: Change your earlier third-person bio (“She is… / He is…”) into a first-person version (“I am…”) you can say in an interview.
- Chronological order: Start with your current role or focus, then move to selected past experience and finish with your next step.
- Verb tense: Use past tense for past experience, and present tense for your current role, skills, and goals.
- Articles: Use a / an / the correctly in key places (for example: “a customer support specialist”, “the Skillforce Ready program”).
- Complete sentences: No fragments. Each sentence should stand alone and end with a full stop.
- Clarity: Short, clear sentences that are easy to say out loud in one breath.
- Professional word choice: Replace very generic phrases (for example, “I am a hard worker”) with specific language that shows impact (for example, “I support cross-functional teams and follow tasks to completion under pressure.”).
Suggested time: 10–15 minutes to read, listen once, and revise your 4–8 sentences.
Step 2 – Submit your final bio
When you are happy with your edits, copy your final bio (4–8 sentences) and:
- Paste it into the assignment text box, or
- Upload a document that clearly shows your final bio at the top of the page.
At the top of your submission, please write: “Final Professional Bio – Interview Version”.
This first-person version should still follow the organized structure you practiced with Maria: clear sequence, specific details, and professional tone.
How your final bio will be evaluated
Your instructor will review your bio using the points below:
- Content & structure: Includes all four parts – background, key skills, one concrete achievement, and your next professional step – in a logical, chronological order.
- Specificity: Uses at least one clear example or result (for example, numbers, responsibilities, or real tasks), not only general statements.
- Accuracy: Mostly correct verb tenses, articles, and sentence structure. No very long run-on sentences.
- Professional tone: Language is appropriate for employers and networking (respectful, confident, no informal slang, no age or personal details that are not needed).
- Clarity & length: 4–8 sentences, easy to read and to say out loud in about 30–45 seconds.
This version will be used in future interview practice, mentoring sessions, and your portfolio. You are allowed to improve it again later as you gain new skills and experiences. For now, aim for your clearest, strongest description of who you are as a professional.
