Milestone 6: Writing Effective Follow-Ups and Responses

Milestone 6: Writing Effective Follow-Ups and Responses

In this milestone, you will strengthen one of the most common real-world networking skills: continuing professional
relationships through clear, polite, and specific email communication.

In the latest live session, we practiced formal email structure and professionalism: a specific subject line,
a respectful greeting, a clear body, a strong call to action, and a complete signature. Milestone 6 takes that same structure and helps you apply it across realistic networking situations after the first email is sent, no response,
a “yes” reply, a request for clarification, a referral, or a polite decline.

You will read rich professional examples, analyze tone and specificity, and write follow-up emails that sound
confident, respectful, and efficient. You will also build a short written networking “thread” that shows you can
manage a professional email exchange from start to finish.

  • Write a strong, specific networking email using professional structure and tone.
  • Identify common follow-up scenarios and select the most appropriate response.
  • Write clear, polite follow-up emails for different outcomes (no reply, “yes,” clarification, referral, decline).
  • Maintain consistency, professionalism, and purpose across a short written email exchange.
  • Revise your writing to improve clarity, tone, specificity, punctuation, and readability.
